Eugene Franklin Johnson

Mr. Eugene Franklin Johnson, 92, of Blackshear, passed away Wednesday morning, November 1, 2023, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House.

Born in Urbana, OH on June 12, 1931, he lived in Ohio for many years before moving to Pierce County in 2000.  Mr. Johnson went to work for International Harvester for a short time before enlisting in the US Air Force where he was a flight line mechanic working on military jets.  Following his time in the service he went back to work for International Harvester (later Navistar) where he would retire in 1980. Mr. Johnson also farmed during this time.  Once he moved to Pierce County, he went to work for the McNeal’s in Waycross delivering lawn mowers. 

A true Jack-of-all-trades, Mr. Johnson could do and fix anything whether it was mechanical or electrical.  He loved to hunt and had an extensive gun collection.  He also enjoyed collecting bayonets and lanterns.  Mr. Johnson loved to travel and make memories for his family.  While in Ohio, he was a member of Living Waters Church of God in Marysville but since moving to Blackshear was a member of New Life Church.   

He was a son of the late Harrison & Savannah Georgia Miller Johnson.  He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Mollie Faye Hickox Johnson, who passed away on August 15 of this year; his son-in-law, Robert Rommel; his sister, Janet Dixon; and both of his brothers, Robert Johnson and James “Jim” Johnson.

Survivors include his daughter, Vickie Rommel of Blackshear; his grandchildren, Tiffany & Michael Altman and Kyle & Shawna Carter; his great grandchildren, Daniel Flowers and Savannah Flowers; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Graveside services for Mr. Johnson will be held Friday morning, November 3, 2023, at 11:30 from the Blackshear Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Dixon and Pastor Andy Peacock officiating.

Visitation for Mr. Johnson will be held at the funeral home from 10 until 11 Friday morning.
