Mrs. Vielee Martin Hester, 67 of Blackshear, passed away Sunday morning, March 22, 2020, at Memorial Satilla Health following a sudden illness.
Born in Hoboken, GA on March 9, 1953, she had lived in Pierce County most of her life. Mrs. Hester had worked as a cook/waitress for Tastee-Freez as well as Odean’s for many years prior to working for Stewart Candy in security. She loved to read and enjoyed social media, especially Facebook where she would share a Bible verse every morning. She was of the Pentecostal faith and attended Christ Church.
She was a daughter of the late Madison Markson “Duck” & Ocie Viola Melton Martin. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, one an infant and Viola Aldridge; and six brothers, Rev. Hilton Martin, Marshall Martin, Marvin Martin, Dennis Martin, Davis Martin, and Melvin Martin.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Jimmy Floyd Hester of Blackshear; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda & Brian Estep of Stockbridge, GA, Brandy & Mark Brown of Zebulon, GA, and Joann & Darrell Blackmon of Meansville, GA; a sister, Helen Logan of Waycross; three brothers, Rev. Jerry (Erica) Martin, Wayne (Sharon) Martin, and Ray Martin all of Blackshear; two sisters-in-law, Marie Martin of Blackshear and Marilyn Martin of Spartanburg, SC; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Due to COVID-19, the family will have a private graveside service on Thursday at the Oakland Cemetery.
There will be no public visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to Pierce County Floral inside Wall’s IGA so Mr. Hester can keep flowers on Mrs. Hester’s grave throughout the year.
