Mr. Ellis Lester “Buddy” King, 81 of Blackshear, passed away Sunday evening, June 12, 2022, at his residence.
Born in Blackshear, GA on March 31, 1941, he had lived in Pierce County most of his life. Mr. King served in the US Army for four years where he was stationed in Korea as well as Ft. Benning in Columbus, GA. Following his military service, he returned home and farmed for a while before working in the lumber business for a few years. Mr. King would go on to become a welder for Wells Cargo before going to work for Southern Dimensions where he would later retire. His hobby was working but he did find time to enjoy watching movies. Mr. King was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church and was a former Worshipful Master for the Hoboken Masonic Lodge, #740.
He was a son of the late Lester Avant & Allie Mae Clark King. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Kyong King; three sisters, Isabella King, Corrine Groce, and Earnestine Jones; and two brothers, Tony King and Roy King.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Gloria Herrin King of Blackshear; his daughter and son-in-law, Lois Ann & Greg Rowland of Blackshear; three sons, Reggie Douberly (fiance’ Sharon Ramos) of Racine, WI, and John Douberly and Calvin Douberly (Rose Daniel) all of Blackshear; four sisters, Alice (James) Roberson, Wanda Peacock, Sonya (Dewayne) Tuten, and Geraldine Walley all of Blackshear; a brother, Arnold King of Blackshear; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. King will be held Thursday morning, June 16, 2022, at 11:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home chapel one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Enon Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Ft. Stewart Honor Guard and Masonic rites conducted by the Masonic Lodge # 740.
