Mrs. Ellie Latrelle “Sug” Barnard Stanfield, 93, of Patterson, passed away Sunday morning, September 8, 2024, at Magnolia Manor Senior Living Center on St. Simons Island, GA.
Born in Patterson, GA on October 4, 1930, she lived in Pierce County most of her life. Mrs. Stanfield was a 1948 graduate of Patterson High School. She and her husband made their home in Patterson with the exception of when they lived in St. Croix while Mr. Stanfield was working as the project manager responsible for building schools. She was a homemaker and had also helped on the family farm, but raising her family and helping to take care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her the most joy. Mrs. Stanfield enjoyed cooking, canning, and gardening. She was a longtime member of Patterson Baptist Church where she was in the Joy Sunday School Class.
She was a daughter of the late James Pratt, Sr. & Miriam Alma Dixon Barnard. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lewis Stanfield, Sr.; her son and daughter-in-law, Raymond Lewis, Jr. & Pam Stanfield; her sister, Thedius Barnard Clough; and both of her brothers, James Pratt “J.P” Barnard, Jr. and Jasper Bernard “Bernie” Barnard.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Rowland and Margaret Stanfield both of St. Simons Island; her sister-in-law, Sheila Barnard of Blythe Island; her aunt, Laverne Parker of Patterson; 4 grandchildren, Brittany (Kevin) Crotty, Emily (Michael) Hughes, Brooke Cosby, & Ellen (Brad) Arington; 10 great grandchildren, Drew & Ellie Crotty, Sam & Sawyer Hughes, Charlie Cosby and Grady Gunn, and Grayson, Hadley, Jones, and Dixon Arington; a special caregiver to Mrs. Sug, Donna Gardner of Brunswick; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Stanfield will be held Wednesday morning, September 11, 2024, at 11:00 o’clock at the Patterson Baptist Church with Rev. R. C. James and Mr. Kevin Crotty officiating.
The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family kindly requests members of the Joy Sunday school class to serve as honorary pallbearers. Please meet at the church by 10:30 Wednesday morning.
Interment will be in the Patterson Cemetery.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Magnolia Manor for their care and compassion shown to Mrs. Stanfield while in their care.
