Mr. Dorsey Jackson “Sam” Cason, 96, of Blackshear, passed away Friday morning, January 10, 2025, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross.
Born in Blackshear, GA, on July 9, 1928, he had lived in Pierce County all of his life. After serving in the United States Marine Corp, he returned to Pierce County and began farming tobacco with his father and later his brother-in-law, Joe. Although he never married or had children of his own, he showered his affection on his nieces, Joni and Kena. He loved to hunt and fish, but most importantly, he loved going to church and never missed a service at Rehobeth Baptist Church, where he was a lifelong member.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley and Isabel Waters Cason, as well as both of his sisters, Colleen Cason Cochran and Clara Cason O’Steen, his brother, John Malcolm “Mack” Cason, and a brother-in-law, Joe Cochran.
Survivors include his brother-in-law, Kenneth O’Steen of Blackshear; three nieces, Joni Cochran (Tim) Farmer, Kena (Steve) Butler, and Kathy Cason; and numerous other relatives, including great nephew, Joey (Carlie) Farmer, great nieces, Cassie (Sam) Fipps, Emilee Farmer, Kady King, and Kenly (Jake) Hacker.
Funeral services for Mr. Cason will be held Monday afternoon, January 13, 2025, at 2:00 o’clock from the Rehobeth Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
