Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Orvin O’Steen, 88, of Blackshear, passed away early Monday morning, February 1, 2021, at Harborview Health, Pierce County, after an extended illness.
Born in Baxley on September 14, 1932, she lived in Waycross for several years before moving to Pierce County in the early 1970’s. She was a hairdresser for many years as well as working as a packer at United Egg. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and babysat for children over the years. Dot was a faithful member at Emmanuel Baptist Church for more than 50 years, where she attended the Young at Heart Sunday School Class. She loved her church and her church family and ministers. She worked in the church nursery for over 20 years, and was former choir member. She was also a member of the Saints of Joy senior group at the church.
She was a daughter of the late Wade Horace and Carrie Branch Orvin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edward “Ed” O’Steen; four sisters, Jeanette Bowman, Annette Osborne, Wynell Bush, and Marilyn Trogdon; three brothers, R.L. Orvin, D.C. Orvin, and Mickey Orvin.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Karen (John) Crook of Graniteville, SC, and Brenda O’Steen of Blackshear; her son and daughter-in-law Glenn (Marcy) O’Steen of Evans, GA; two sisters, Carrie Lee Bryant of Tallahassee, and Jackie Hayes of Hoboken; three brothers, J. W. “Dub” (Patricia) Orvin, H. B. (Janet) Orvin, and Danny (Brenda) Orvin all of Baxley; two sisters-in-law, Billie Jean Orvin, and Barbara Orvin both of Baxley; two brothers-in-law, Bob (Latrell)Trogdon, and Marcus (Jan) O’Steen both of Alma, and Don (Claudia) O’Steen of Bluffton, SC; 4 grandchildren, Justin Crook, Mary Kate O’Steen, Abby Avelar, Eli O’Steen; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Graveside services for Mrs. O’Steen will be held Thursday morning, February 4, 2021, at 10:30 am, from the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church in Baxley.
Interment will be in the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
