Mr. Devon Foy Kimbrell, Sr., 80, of Blackshear, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2025, at his residence.
Born in Patterson, GA on August 10, 1944, he lived in Ware and Pierce counties most of his life. Mr. Kimbrell was a 1962 graduate of Patterson High School. Following his graduation, he went right to work as a blacksmith with CSX Transportation and worked for them until his retirement. Mr. Kimbrell enjoyed hunting in his younger days but his true passion was fishing. He also looked forward to planting a garden every year and enjoyed riding around the neighborhood on his golfcart. He was a member of Laura Chapel Baptist Church.
He was a son of the late Charlie Foy & Mildred Haire Kimbrell.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Hetrick Kimbrell of Rochester, PA; his daughter and son-in-law, Holly Kimbrell & Thomas Powell of Watkinsville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Devon F. “D.F.” Kimbrell, Jr. of Patterson and Jason & Dawn Kimbrell of Waycross; his former wife and caregiver, Sally Sloan Dixon of Blackshear; a sister, Joann Woodcock of Darien; a brother, Jackie (Pat) Kimbrell of Waycross; 2 grandchildren, Jason C. “J.C.” (Ericka) Kimbrell and Hunter (Kylie) Kimbrell; a great grandson, Kaiden, due to make his arrival in October; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Kimbrell will be held Monday afternoon, June 23, 2025, at 2:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Rowell and Rev. Steve Dees officiating.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 5 until 7.
Interment will be in the Laura Chapel Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be J. C. Kimbrell, Hunter Kimbrell, Roy Sloan, Bob Kimbrell, Christopher Hamm, Zhian Hamm, and Doug Woodcock.
The family kindly requests all former CSX Blacksmith Shop employees to serve as honorary pallbearers. Please meet at the funeral home by 1:30 Monday afternoon.
