Mrs. Debra Ann Landon Mansfield, 65 of Patterson, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville. Her husband, Ulyses McClellan “Gomer” Mansfield, 70, passed away early Saturday morning, September 4th, also at Memorial Hospital.
Debra was born in Blackshear, GA on November 10, 1955. She had lived in Pierce County all her life. She was a 1973 graduate of Patterson High School and was also a graduate of Okefenokee Technical College. Debra worked at Bonnie’s Sewing Factory in Screven for several years before going to work with the US Postal Service first in Bristol, then Baxley, and finally in Waycross where she retired. She loved reading and crocheting and together with her husband had enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables as well as traveling to the mountains of Tennessee. Debra and Gomer were active members of Offerman Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher and member of the choir. Together they were members of the Joy Sunday school class and helped with The Dependable class and so enjoyed all of the trips they would go on. Gomer was born in Screven, GA on May 10, 1951. He had worked for Pearce’s Furniture in Odum prior to going to work as a welder for American Welding and Tank where he would retire. He loved racing whether it was dirt track or NASCAR and tending to his plants. He served as an usher at Offerman Baptist Church. Where you would see him, you would see her and how fitting for them (yet sad for those they leave behind) that God would let them go so close together.
Debra was a daughter of the late Ottis “JR” “Doc” & Barbara Jean Cason Landon. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Dan Landon. Gomer was a son of the late Ulyses Thomas & Etta Williamson Mansfield. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Walter Mansfield.
Survivors include their sons, Carl Mansfield (Tanya Arnold) of Blackshear and Kevin (Dottie) Mansfield of Offerman; 9 grandchildren, Kayla (Jacob) Kovalcin, Carla Mansfield, Stephanie Sippert, Becca Mansfield (David Hoag), Gus Mansfield, Brittany (Juan) Sanchez, David (Mallory) Henderson, Ethan Arnold, & Halie Myers; 9 great grandchildren, Devin, Landon, Kaylob Kovalcin, Sutton Hoag, Sophie, Daisie, and Bonnie Sanchez, and Camerin and Everly Henderson; Debra’s siblings, Patricia (Mitch) Rogers of Jesup, Janet Peacock of Blackshear, and Don Landon of K’Ville; Gomer’s siblings, Earline Lambeth of Odum, Geraldine (Bobby) Craven of Baxley, and Aubrey (Pat) Mansfield and Hershal Mansfield all of Odum; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
