Ms. Daisy Lynette Smith Manning, 70 of Brunswick, passed away early Thursday morning, March 12, 2020, at Southeast Georgia Health Systems – Brunswick Campus – following a short illness.
Born in Blackshear, GA on January 27, 1950, she had lived in Blackshear for several years before moving to Brunswick in 1993. Ms. Manning had been very active with the Brunswick-Glynn County Council on Disabilities where she would help to make crab traps to be sold to fisherman at the marina in Brunswick. She was a huge Elvis Presley fan, enjoyed participating in the Special Olympics where she had won several medals, loved her pet bird and pet fish, and enjoyed doing puzzles. Her favorite thing to do was rock in her rocking chair and on February 17th of this year she was crowned Miss Magnolia Manor for 2020! Ms. Manning was of the Baptist faith and attended Glyndale Baptist Church but had also attended the Blackshear Church of God while living in Blackshear.
She was a daughter of the late Hoke Smith & Retter Virginia Byrd Smith Lee. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Annette Godwin; and both of her brothers, Romey “R.D.” Smith and Jordan Smith.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Willene Smith of Brunswick; nieces and nephew, Susan Jacobs, Romey “Ronnie” Smith, Jr., and Debra (Patrick) Duncan; numerous great nieces and nephews, and several other relatives.
A graveside service for Ms. Manning will be held Saturday afternoon, March 14, 2020, at 2:30 from the Bristol Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery.
