Cynthia Griner Obituary

Mrs. Cynthia Diane Lynn Griner, 69 of Patterson, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 16, 2021, at her residence.

Born in Waycross, GA on October 14, 1951, she had lived in Pierce County all her life.  Mrs. Griner was a 1969 graduate of Patterson High School.  She was a member of FFA and was elected FFA Sweetheart.  Following graduation, she went to work for the former Patterson Bank for a few years prior to working for Thomas Machine Shop.  She would go on to work for the Pierce County Road Department as their secretary and retired after 20+ years.  Mrs. Griner went back to work for Pierce County at their Senior Center for a short time.  Over the years, she had also helped her husband on the farm and been a homemaker.  She enjoyed all kinds of needlework – sewing, crocheting, needlepoint – and loved to make frames for her work and give them to others.  Mrs. Griner had also enjoyed cooking and baking and working in her yard when she was able.  She was a member of Patterson Baptist Church and had been a member of the former Patterson Women’s Club.  Many do not know that she had leukemia as a toddler and miraculously beat the odds especially during a time when medicine wasn’t as far advanced as it is today.  Perhaps that struggle is what enabled her to face Multiple Sclerosis and fight her battle courageously and without complaint for over 30 years.

She was a daughter of the late Bert L. & Jelain Crews Lynn.  She was also preceded in death by her older brother who passed away as a child, Charles Lynn.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Wade Griner of Patterson; her son and daughter-in-law, Henry Wade “Chip” & Julie Griner, Jr. of Patterson; her sister, Linda L. Tripp of Greenville, NC; her sister and brother-in-law, Ruth & Van Steedley of Mershon; 3 granddaughters, Emma Grace Griner, Ella Mae Griner, and Elizabeth Lynn Griner; her niece, Margaret Ruth Steedley; nephew, Van Steedley, Jr.; and several other relatives and friends.
