Mrs. Clarice Taylor Smiley, 90 of Blackshear, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 22, 2020, at her residence following a short illness.
Born in Waycross, GA on June 10, 1929, she had lived in Miami for several years before moving to Pierce County in 1979. Mrs. Smiley was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, working in her yard, sewing, and crocheting. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and had loved going to church and being very active in different lady’s groups prior to her health declining. Mrs. Smiley was a very loving and giving person and was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was a daughter of the late Lonnie Leander & Ada Rutha Nettles Taylor. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Chyler Smiley; a daughter, Wanda Sutherland; her sister, Juanita Taylor Bryant; and all four of her brothers, Clarence Taylor, Daniel Taylor (former Chief of Police for the City of Blackshear), Grover Taylor, and Stanton Taylor.
Survivors include a daughter, Ada Wynelle Harjula of Blackshear; two sons and daughters-in-law, George & Sherry Smiley and Gene Lemar & Kathy Smiley all of Blackshear; three sisters-in-law, Frances Taylor and Lillian Smiley both of Blackshear and Boncille Barrow of Jesup; 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Due to COVID-19, the family will have a private graveside service on Thursday at the Blackshear Cemetery.
There will be no public visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to either Hospice Satilla (808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, GA 31501) or to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 217 West Carter Ave., Blackshear, GA 31516.
