Charles Gilliard Obituary

Mr. Charles Gilliard, 69 of Jesup, passed away late Wednesday afternoon, March 18, 2020, in Waycross following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Homerville, GA on October 17, 1950, he had lived in Pierce County most of his life before moving to Paradise Park in Jesup 4 years ago.  Mr. Gilliard had worked in construction all of his life and was of the Baptist faith.  His favorite pastime was fishing and if given a choice, he would have done it for a living.  He was a good man with a good heart who would do anything for anyone.  He loved his girls and will be greatly missed.

He was a son of the late Ezra Lee Gilliard & Tynie Marie Dean Clontz.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, Patty Gilliard, and a brother, Randy Dean.

Survivors include his two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon & Jeffrey Strickland of Waynesville and Shelly & Joe Herndon of Blackshear; two sisters, Rhonda (Warren) Gilliard of Arkansas and Cathy Gilliard of Valdosta; 5 grandchildren, Logan Miller, Zachary Miller, Kaitlyn Shannon, Brandon Shannon, and Jacob Selph; a great grandchild, Peighton Dixon; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

The family will have a memorial service at a later date.

Memorialization will be by cremation.

Charles’ daughters would like to thank his cousin, Pam Sewell and her husband, Charlie, for opening their home to Charles and taking care of him in his final days.
