Chandler Vreeland Obituary

Mr. Chandler Vreeland, 62 of Marietta, passed away Friday evening, February 12, 2021 at Cobb General Hospital.

Born in New Orleans, LA on October 4, 1958, he had lived in Marietta most of his life and was a graduate of Sprayberry High School.  He graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.A. in Journalism and a minor in Photography.  He also graduated from Samford Law School in Birmingham, AL where he received his J.D. Law Degree with honors.  He furthered his studies in International Law at the University of Exeter in England, and traveling overseas was something he enjoyed throughout his lifetime.  Once home in Marietta, he clerked for the late Honorable Justice Harris Hines and also in Houston, TX, interned with prominent attorney, the late Richard “Racehorse” Haynes.

Setting up practice was a goal of his and he did successfully in Marietta for over 30 years.  He also became an assistant district attorney for the North Georgia Enota Circuit in the early 2000’s.  Most recently, he had joined the law firm of Mathew C. Hines and was head of the Civil Division.

He loved helping people and joined numerous civic and philanthropic organizations.  Along with being a member of Georgia Trial Lawyers Association and the Cobb Bar Association, he was past president of the Kennesaw Kiwanis Club and a member of Rotary, the Masons, and Sons of the American Revolution.  He attended Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta.  He loved spending time outdoors, deep-sea fishing and scuba diving in Florida.  He was an avid reader and author of two books. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lou and June Vreeland.

He leaves behind a wife, Lisa Gillis Vreeland of Waycross; a sister and brother-in-law, Valerie & Rick Adams of Duluth; his mother-in-law, Millicent Gillis of Waycross; and nephews, Kendall Adams of Duluth and Aaron (Haley) Gillis and Neal (Krista) Gillis, III all of Waycross.  He was close with several cousins and relatives in Georgia and South Carolina.  He is sadly missed by his family, colleagues, friends, and all who knew him.

Funeral services for Mr. Vreeland will be held Saturday morning, February 20, 2021, at 11:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.

Entombment will be in the Greenlawn Mausoleum.
