Mr. Carroll Edward “Curly” Gill, Sr., 72, of Fernandina Beach, passed away Saturday evening, February 18, 2023, at his sister’s (Linda Spivey) residence.
Born in Fernandina Beach, FL on July 18, 1950, he had lived in Fernandina most of his life. Curly had been a supervisor at the Amelia Island Plantation for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and anytime he was fishing he was fishing for “Moe”. Curly loved all sports and was known for cutting up with people and joking around. He dearly loved his family and appreciated all they did for him especially in his final days. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a son of the late Elbert Leroy & Eloise Kirkland Gill. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Larry Wayne Gill; and a brother-in-law, James “J.L.” Spivey.
Survivors include his children, Kim (Bill) Jenson of Fernandina Beach, Charitie (Scott) Allen of Waycross, Crystal Gill of Fernandina Beach, Carrie Gill of Fernandina Beach, Samantha Spivey of Blackshear, Carroll Edward “Ed” Gill, Jr. of Waycross, Joseph (Brooke) Spivey of Blackshear, and Bubba (Chelsea) Spivey of Waycross; three sisters, Shirley CaTron, Linda Spivey, and Janice Spivey all of Blackshear; a brother, Jerry (Pam) Gill of Fernandina Beach; 15 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Graveside services for Curly will be held Tuesday afternoon, February 21, 2023, at 2 o’clock from the Enon Cemetery with Rev. Mike Aldridge officiating.
The family will receive friends at the graveside one hour prior to the service.
