Carole Jean (Baxter) Dowling

Mrs. Carole Jean Baxter Dowling, 66 of Blackshear, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Clovis, NM on September 4, 1954, she had lived in Hoboken for several years before moving back to Blackshear in 2004.  Mrs. Dowling was a 1972 graduate of Blackshear High School and went on to graduate from Waycross-Ware Technical School with a degree in cosmetology.  She had worked for Zachary’s Furniture for several years before becoming a homemaker 35 years ago.  Mrs. Dowling enjoyed reading, especially Eugenia Price books, shopping (purses were her weakness), and being at the beach - as long as she had air conditioning.  She loved exploring the history of Pierce County and riding around (in the air condition) checking out all of the sights.  Mrs. Dowling was a member of Wards Chapel Methodist Church.  

She was a daughter of the late Henry Stephen & Ilean Dixon Baxter.    

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Michael “Mike” Dowling of Blackshear; three daughters, Wendy (Terry) Carroll and Mia Dowling all of Brunswick, and Katie Dowling of Blackshear; two sons, Tony Baxter of Atlanta and Charlie Sutton of Blackshear; two sisters, Cheryl Baxter Thigpen of Blackshear and Nancy Baxter Arrington of Waycross; 4 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a special cousin, Ann Wehrmeyer of Blackshear; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dowling will be held Sunday, March 7, 2021, at 2:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.

Interment will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Hoboken.

Visitation for Mrs. Dowling will be held at the funeral home chapel one hour prior to the service.

The family kindly requests members of the Blackshear High School Class of 1972 serve as honorary pallbearers.  Please meet at the funeral home chapel by 1:30 Sunday afternoon.
