Bishop John Rodney Jeffords, 75 of Waycross, passed away Thursday morning, January 9, 2020, at his residence.
Born in Waresboro, GA on March 26, 1944, he had lived Cleveland, TN for several years prior to moving to Waycross 2 ½ years ago. Bishop Jeffords was a 1962 graduate of Ware County High School and went on to attend Holmes Theological Seminary and Lee University as well as the Church of God School of Theology. He served as a pastor for 25 years and Bishop for 23 years from which he retired. During his ministry he had the privilege to live all over the United States. He was a member of the Blackshear Church of God. Bishop Jeffords’ love and heart were with the ministry.
He was a son of the late John Orbie & Vera Myrtle Tuten Jeffords. He was also preceded in death by all three of his sisters, Anita Hughes, Edith Swain, and Lois Jeffords; and by his brother, Foden Jeffords.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Sandra Bowen Jeffords of Waycross; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rod & Stephanie Jeffords, Jr. of Highlands Ranch, CO and Chris & Tamara Jeffords of Waycross; 8 grandchildren, Lauri (Jessie) Santana, Chelsea Jeffords, Kayti (Aaron) Carver, Amara Grace Jeffords, Aidan Jeffords, Jack Jeffords, Tassie Jeffords, and Marin Jeffords; 3 great grandchildren, Roman Cameron, Arturo Santana, and Ariela Santana; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Bishop Jeffords will be held Sunday afternoon, January 12, 2019, at 3 o’clock from the Blackshear Church of God.
Interment will be in the Waters Cemetery.
Visitation for Bishop Jeffords will be held at the church on Sunday afternoon from 1 until 3.
