Mr. Billy Jack Abshire, 85 of Blackshear, passed away early Wednesday morning, August 19, 2020, at Magnolia Manor in Midway, GA.
Born in Pikeville, Kentucky on March 3, 1935, he grew up in Ohio but had lived in Pierce County for the past 20 years. Mr. Abshire served in the US Army during the Korean conflict. He had worked in construction/concrete and had been the owner/operator of Scooby Concrete from which he retired. Mr. Abshire was a very talented carpenter (concrete) and was a Jack-of-all-trades and whatever he set his mind to he did whether it concerned Body Shop repair, construction, or concrete. He had even worked on the 7 Mile Tunnel. He taught his boys to hunt and enjoyed music – playing and singing, and traveling. He and his family started the band, BJ and the Pinecones. Over the years they had played on television shows as well as having cut their own record. They enjoyed raising money for those in need at numerous KOA Campgrounds. Mr. Abshire enjoyed life and loved his family (We love you Grandpa!). He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a son of the late Ross & Myrtle Jane Gross Abshire. He was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Michelle Abshire; and a brother, Okie Abshire.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Juanita Jane Roush Abshire of Blackshear; three sons, Billie Jarrett (Luana) Abshire of Venice, FL, Brian Jeffrey (Debbie) Abshire, Sr. of St. Cloud, FL, and Bradley Joe Abshire of Blackshear; a sister, Mary Ellen Dodson of Arkansas; two brothers, Ollie Jean (Phyllis) Abshire of Point Pleasant, WV, and Clinton Abshire of Ohio; 8 grandchildren, Bambi Jo Abshire, Austin (Chelsea)Abshire, Tabatha (David) Slater, Tiffany (David) Hill, Tasha (Jon) McLeroy, Brian Jeffrey (Jackie) Abshire, II, Chelsea Abshire, and Shelby (Shawntay) Abshire; 22 great grandchildren; 3 great, great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family will have a private memorial service honoring Mr. Abshire’s life.
Memorialization will be by cremation.
