Ms. Betty Jean Williams Walker Martin, 94, of Patterson, Georgia gained her angel wings on August 2, 2025, at the Jones Center at Baptist Village in Waycross, Georgia. All Ms. Betty’s family and friends share the words of Paul with her, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7).
Ms. Betty, as she was affectionately known, was born in Sylvania, Georgia on October 31, 1930, to the late Harry B. & Maude Bazemore Williams. She was a 1947 graduate of Sylvania High School and attended Georgia Teachers College where she attained her Education Teaching Degree. She moved to Patterson, Georgia where she taught school for several years. In Patterson, she met Enoch Walker, Jr., married, and had three children: Melinda (Richard) Griffis, Lawton (Sheila) Walker, and Bill Walker. After Enoch’s death, she would marry the most eligible bachelor in Patterson, Jimmie C. Martin. Ms. Betty was a member of Patterson Baptist Church for over 70 years. She taught the Joy Sunday School Class and served on numerous committees with the church. She was an avid supporter of the Patterson community and all the people and activities.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Bill Walker, and both spouses, Enoch Walker, Jr. and Jimmie C. Martin. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law & son and daughter-in-law, along with her four grandchildren, Daniel (Tiffany) Griffis, Angel (Ken) Tittle, Caroline Walker, and Jake (Rachel) Walker; her four great grandchildren, Hudson and Carter Tittle & Millie and Shepherd Walker; and numerous relatives and many special friends who were a part of her wonderful life.
A funeral service for Ms. Betty will take place on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 12:00 o’clock from the Patterson Baptist Church with Rev. R. C. James and Rev. Vance Colley officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
A private burial will be held in Patterson Cemetery.
A special thank-you to Dr. Don Waters, a lifelong doctor and friend. Also, all the staff and support group at the Jones Center at Baptist Village as well as Hospice Satilla. Ms. Betty loved and appreciated each of you.
