Ms. Betty L. Dixon, 83 of Patterson, passed away Sunday evening, December 13, 2020, at her residence.
Born in Patterson, GA on December 15, 1936, she had lived in Ft. Lauderdale, FL for several years before returning to Patterson in 1962. She was a 1954 graduate of Patterson High School and graduated from business school in Miami. She had worked in the office of her brother’s construction company while living in Ft. Lauderdale and once back in Pierce County went to work for her late brother, Walter, at Dixon Ford Tractor where she had been the office manager/bookkeeper for almost 60 years. Ms. Betty had also worked on the family farm and dearly loved animals, especially her German Shepherd, Kelly. She had played softball, mainly 3rd base and shortstop, while in her 40’s and had been a caregiver to some of her brothers in their later years. Ms. Betty was the last of 19 children and was like the matriarch of the family. She knew everything that was going on and what she didn’t know she would find out. She will be greatly missed by this big family. Ms. Betty was of the Baptist faith.
She was a daughter of the late Dan Daniel & Sallie Marintha Chancey Dixon. She was also preceded in death by all of her siblings, Vera Dixon, Clara Prescott, Josie Dixon, Belle Strickland, Gladys Dixon, Earl Dixon, Claude Dixon, Lewis Dixon, Eugene Dixon, John Riley Dixon, Sr., Oden Dixon, R. L. Dixon, Pat Dixon, Dennis Dixon, Walter Dixon, James Dixon, Lester Dixon, and William Dixon.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Dixon of Blackshear and Dale Dixon of Coral Springs, FL; numerous nieces and nephews including Mary & Floyd Gill who took care of Ms. Betty these last few months. She considered all of her nieces and nephews her children or grandchildren and had no problem giving them whippings if they deserved it!
