Ms. Bertha Mae Crawford Chaney, 79, of Waycross, passed away Friday evening, May 17, 2024, at Memorial Satilla Health Systems of Waycross.
Born in Screven, GA on October 20, 1944, she lived in Waycross and Blackshear most of her life. Lovingly known as “Fat Mae”, she had a sassy spirit to her, which was shown in her constant joking and having fun with her family. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was a daughter of the late Daniel Beil and Ruby Knowles Crawford. She was also preceded in death by two of her sisters, Linda Jean Herrin and Shelby Vaughn; all three of her brothers, Tommy Crawford, Julian Crawford, and Elmerine Crawford; and two grandchildren, Angela Morgan and Randy J. Todd.
Survivors include three daughters, Rhonda Chaney of Waycross, Rebecca Chaney of Blackshear, and Rosie Chaney of Waycross; a son, Ronnie Chaney of Blackshear; a sister, Rita Newton of Waycross; 11 grandchildren, Bo Chaney, Matthew Chaney, Rhonda Carter, Randy Teston, Amy Patterson, Heather Ford, Taylor Harper, Eddie James, Nikita Kirkland, Randall James, and Christian James; numerous great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Memorialization will be by cremation.
