Mrs. Barbara Jacobs Thornton, 90, of Waycross, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021, at Hospice Satilla Hospice House after an extended illness.
Born in Jacksonville, FL on December 5, 1930 she had lived most of her life in Pierce and Ware counties. Barbara liked cooking and baking cakes. She was a compassionate person who enjoyed talking to people and taking care of others. Most of all she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
She was a daughter of the late James Wardie and Trudie Johns Jacobs. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, J.R. “Rep” Harris; her second husband, Willie E. Thornton; her daughter, Barbara Diane Williamson; her siblings, Dorothy “Dot” Lee Kuntz, Rexford Raleigh Jacobs, Roy Jefferson Jacobs, Troy James Jacobs, Doris Jacobs, Eugene Roosevelt Jacobs, Erma Arlene Kennedy, and Virginia Faye Jacobs.
Survivors include her two sons and daughter-in-law, William Rex Harris, and Terry (Debbie) Harris all of Waycross; a son-in-law, Tommie Williamson of Blackshear; two sisters, Shirley Margaret Beverly and Carolyn (Bob) Hiers all of Jacksonville; a sister-in-law, Doris Jacobs; 6 grandchildren, Nikki Williamson, Philip (Kim) Williamson, Morgan (Stephen) Taylor, Marie (Lisa) Shiver, Heather Markle, and Cody Harris; 7 great grandchildren, Zane Markle, Ryan Davis, Ralston Taylor, Ryleigh Taylor, Ryker Taylor, Brice Williamson, and Brayden Williamson; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Thornton will be held Thursday afternoon, February 4, 2021, at 12 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
Interment will be in the Shiloh Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel.
