Barbara Ann (Thornton) Mobley

December 8, 1931 ~ June 20, 2020 (age 88)

Mrs. Barbara Ann Thornton Mobley, 88, of Patterson, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2020, at her residence.

Born in Patterson, GA on December 8, 1931, she had lived in Pierce County all of her life.  Mrs. Mobley was a 1951 graduate of Patterson High School.  She had briefly worked as a telephone operator in Waycross before pursing her calling and obtaining her Licensed Practical Nurse degree.  She had worked at Baptist Village as well as Riverside Nursing Homes over the years but working as a private duty nurse was where her heart was and she would go on to retire as a personal sitter.  Mrs. Mobley loved to cook, to listen to Jimmy Swaggart, and watch Gunsmoke and T. J. Hooker.  Pleasing others and making them happy was how she lived her life and not only was she a mother to her two daughters, she was a mother to many others as well.  Mrs. Mobley was of the Holiness faith and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was a daughter of the late Lawton Grady & Mae Griffin Thornton.  She was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Margaret Speaks and Betty Thornton; and four brothers, Gustene “Shorty” Thornton, Gilbert Thornton, James “Jiggs” Thornton, and Shon Thornton.

Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra & John Scurry of Waycross and Tina & Jerry Stephens of Patterson; Shon Griffin and Lamar Griffin both of Waycross who she raised as her sons; two brothers, Joe Thornton of Blackshear and Jimmy (Cynthia) Thornton of Patterson; a sister-in-law, Maxine Thornton of Waycross; 4 grandchildren, Sabree Scurry (Tony Thompson), J. T. Scurry, Shay (Caitlin) Stephens, and Tori Stephens; 2 great grandchildren, Brody Stephens and Eisley Stephens; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
