Mr. Archie Olis Davis, 74, of Blackshear, longtime and well-loved local barber, passed away Friday morning, February 1, 2025, at Harborview Pierce County.
Born in Alma, GA on October 18, 1950, he lived in Pierce County all his life. Olis was a 1969 graduate of Blackshear High School where he played football for the Blackshear Tigers. Following graduation from high school, he went to work for the railroad in Waycross for several years before enrolling in Roffler Barber College in Jacksonville and graduating in 1984. Olis would go on to take over his father’s business, Davis Barber Shop, and run it until his retirement in 2020. He always loved to bring people together, especially around a good meal, so he started the Olis Davis Downtown Christmas party for the downtown merchants and citizens of Pierce County. It was always a hit and definitely looked forward to each year. Olis was a die-hard Georgia Bulldog fan and loved being a Blackshear Tiger with his class of ’69 classmates. He loved his job and the people he served and had a knack for making the children with special needs relax so he could cut their hair. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and was very proud of them. He was a member of Blackshear First Baptist Church where he was in the Misfits Sunday school class.
He was a son of the late Archibald Hobert & Etta Faye Henderson Davis. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Danny Davis.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Kicklighter Davis of Blackshear; his daughter and son-in-law, Haley & Michael Wilson of Milledgeville; his son and daughter-in-law, Nicolis & Kassie Davis of Valdosta; his sister and brother-in-law, Brenda & Dudley Hendry of Blackshear; five grandchildren, Tinsley Taylor, Harrison Davis, Hudson Davis, Hollis Davis, and Darcy Wilson; his mother-in-law, Iris Kicklighter of Sycamore; his sister-in-law, Venita (Mark) Sandiford of Tifton; two brothers-in-law, Neal (Glenda) Kicklighter and Kevin (Jill) Kicklighter both of Sycamore; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family will be celebrating Olis’s life with a visitation on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 2-4 pm at the funeral home.
Memorialization will be by cremation.
