Mr. Alvin King Rowell, Sr., 92 of Blackshear, passed away Wednesday evening, February 3, 2021, at his residence.
Born in Hortense, GA on March 14, 1928, he had lived most of his adult life in Pierce County. Mr. Rowell worked as a star route carrier with the US Postal service for many years before going to work with Champion and retiring after 16 years. He fished a little, enjoyed working in his garden and planting trees (even replanting them), and loved gospel music. Mr. Rowell was a loving husband, a great dad, and a proud granddaddy who doted on all of his grandchildren. He was a faithful member of Hacklebarney Baptist Church where he was in the Senior Adult Sunday school class.
He was a son of the late Tollie W. & Sarah Jane Davis Rowell. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Karris York and Glenda Faye Lee; and four brothers, Vestus Ray Rowell, Ronnie J. Rowell, J. W. Rowell, and J. D. Rowell.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Louise Johnson Rowell of Blackshear; two sons and daughters-in-law, Alvin & Inez Rowell and John David & Janis Rowell all of Blackshear; a sister, Winna Lee Miller of Hortense; a brother, Rev. Carlton (Cathy) Rowell of Surrency; a sister-in-law, Betty Rowell of Leesburg; 4 grandchildren, Christi & Robbie Berry, Tracy & Jody Gill, Scarlett Rowell, and Matthew Rowell; 7 great grandchildren, Mallan Gill, Reese Gill, Zane Gill, Brianna (Devin) Wells, Caitlin Rowell, Millie Rowell, and A. K. Rowell; 1 great great grandson, Wes Wells; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Rowell will be held Saturday afternoon, February 6, 2021, at 3:00pm, at the Hacklebarney Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family kindly requests members of the Senior Adult Sunday school class serve as honorary pallbearers. Please meet at the church by 2:30 Saturday afternoon.
