Aloha Lee “Sis” Davis Young, 91, of Blackshear, passed away early Friday morning, July 19, 2024, at her residence.
Born in Blackshear, GA on October 29, 1932, she had lived in Pierce County most of her life. Mrs. Sis was a graduate of LaGrange College in LaGrange, Georgia and the Warren Chandler School of Nursing in Savannah. Throughout her 42 years nursing career she had the pleasure of working for the Pierce County Hospital until it closed then as an Occupational Health Nurse at CSX Transportation where she would go on to retire. Mrs. Sis was a faithful and dedicated member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for 62 years. During that time, she served in many different capacities such as being a Sunday School teacher and serving with the music ministry. She was a long-time member of the Adult Choir where she had also served as the music director. Mrs. Sis was a people-person and so enjoyed spending time with family and friends and meeting new people. She loved to sing, play card games, and play golf on Tuesdays with the ladies.
She was the daughter of the late Ancil Edward & Mildred Lucille Tuten Davis, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ossie Howard Young, Jr.; both of her brothers, Cuyler Davis and Ancil “Buddy” Davis, Jr.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Paula & Stephen Tuten of Blackshear; her three sons and daughters-in-law, Philip & Joy Young of Trussville, AL, Stevie & Amanda Young of Blackshear, and Andy & Gale Young of Glenwood; two sisters-in-law, Ann Fairley of Waycross and Molly Davis Strickland of Blackshear; 10 grandchildren, Philip H. (Breanna) Young, Jr., James Young, Dr. Patrick (Lucy) Young, LeeAnn (Parnell) Byrd, Dylan Young, Elah Young, Claire Naylor, Matthew (Brittini) Tuten, Madison Tuten, and Mason Tuten; 8 great grandchildren, Davis Young, Harris Young, Kate Young, Preston Byrd, Callie Byrd, Hartley Byrd, Raleigh Tuten, and Hayes Tuten; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A memorial service for Mrs. Sis will be held Sunday afternoon, July 21, 2024, at 3 o’clock from the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
The family will be receiving friends at the church, Sunday afternoon from 1:30 until 3.
Memorialization will be by cremation.
The family kindly requests members of Mrs. Sis's Sunday School class along with members of The Women of Ruth serve as honorary pallbearers. Please meet at the church by 2:30 Sunday afternoon.
