Allen Lewis Strickland

Mr. Allen Lewis Strickland, 73 of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday morning, August 23, 2022, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House.

Born in Screven, GA on December 9, 1948, he had lived in Pierce County all his life.  Mr. Strickland was a 1966 graduate of Patterson High School and was retired from Lewis Machine Shop which he had owned and operated for forty years.  He loved fishing, hunting, and collecting guns.  Mr. Strickland was a member of the Church of Christ in Blackshear. 

He was a son of the late Allen Lewis and Laura Artha Crawford Strickland.  He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Violet Strickland Robinson and Maxine Strickland Simmons; a special uncle, Abe Strickland; his father-in-law, Ronnie Carter; his mother-in-law, Myrtle Carter; a sister-in-law, Lucille Rowland; and three brothers-in-law, Johnny Carter, Willard Rowland, and Alvin Carter.  

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lawanna Carter Strickland of Blackshear; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ken Strickland and Ron & Bandy Strickland all of Blackshear; 4 grandchildren, Kristin Kosonovich of California, Dalton (Josie) Strickland of Blackshear, Kassie Strickland of Waycross, and Katy Bishop of Blackshear; 2 great grandchildren, Emmy Kosonovich of California and Scottlyn Strickland of Blackshear; four sisters, Evelyn Rankin and Brenda Strickland both of Blackshear, Roxane Strickland of North Carolina, and Precious Melinda Strickland of Virginia; a brother, Earl Strickland of Blackshear; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Simmons of Blackshear, Jimmy Carter of Waycross, and Joe Carter (wife, Kay) of Waycross; special friends, Alton & Zoie Thornton of Blackshear; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services for Mr. Strickland will be held Thursday afternoon, August 25, 2022, at 2:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel with Rev. Adam Walker and Rev. Keith Tyre.

Interment will be in the Waters Cemetery.

Visitation for Mr. Strickland will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel.

The family kindly requests members of the Patterson High School Class of ’66 serve as honorary pallbearers.  Please meet at the funeral home by 1:30 Thursday afternoon.
