Obituary for Aldreth Elvoye "Al" Funderburk

Mr. Aldreth Elvoye “Al” Funderburk, 92 of Blackshear, passed away Friday afternoon, March 29, 2019, at his residence.

Born in LaFayette, FL on June 10, 1926, he had lived in Waldo, FL for several years prior to moving to Pierce County in 2005. Mr. Funderburk was a World War II Army veteran having served in the European Theater and went on to retire from Gilman Paper Company after 36 years of faithful service. During the first 18 years of his retirement he and his wife, Margie, were members of Campers on Mission. Mr. Funderburk had been a charter member of Westside Baptist Church in St. Marys, GA where he also served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and Licensed Lay Minister from 1955 to 1988. From 1989 to 2005 he was a member of Waldo Baptist Church in Waldo, FL where he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. From 2006 to the present Mr. Funderburk was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman of men and fish.

He was a son of the late Thomas Fletcher & Beatrice Morgan Funderburk. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Hayward, Adrian, J. T., and Weyman Funderburk.

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Margie Johnson Funderburk of Blackshear; a daughter and son-in-law, Gail & Buford Hancock of Blackshear; four sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce & Sarah Funderburk of Dawson, GA, Steve & Nancy Funderburk of Blackshear, Jeff & Debbie Funderburk of Davenport, FL, and Terry & Sheila Funderburk of Sylvester, GA; a sister, Toma Jean (Larry) Daley of Blackshear; a brother, Joseph Leaun (Sheryl) Funderburk of Kingsland; a sister-in-law, Mary Edna Funderburk of Mayo, FL; 15 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services for Mr. Funderburk will be held Sunday afternoon, March 31, 2019, at 3:00 o’clock from the Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Interment will be in the Waters Cemetery.

Visitation for Mr. Funderburk will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family kindly requests members of the Ron Spell’s Sunday school class to serve as honorary pallbearers. Please meet at the church by 2:30 on Sunday afternoon.
