On Monday, September 30, 2019, Williams Bazemore “Bill” Walker of Patterson, passed away at the age of 54 after an extended illness.
Bill was born on November 4, 1964 in Waycross, Georgia to Enoch Lawton Walker, Jr. and Betty Williams Walker Martin.
Bill had an undying love for people and a passion for living that served as an example for all who knew him. In 2010, Bill was named the Bright Spot Award recipient for the Pierce County Chamber of Commerce but receiving numerous awards started in 1979 with him receiving the FFA’s Top Corn Grower contest winner. He also was the recipient of the Book of Golden Deeds and just this year was inducted into the Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame for serving as outstanding sports ambassador for Pierce County. Bill was a diehard Pierce County Bear, Georgia Bulldog, and Atlanta Braves fan. Ask anyone who knew him and they will concur. His personal athletic successes include tennis letterman at Patterson High School and Pierce County High School. An avid bicycler and assistant coach for numerous recreation league teams for the City of Patterson Recreation Department he was recognized by having a playing field named for him in his honor.
Bill was a member of Patterson Baptist Church. He received his formal education at Patterson High School and Pierce County High School. He was a 1982 graduate of Pierce County High School. His smile, positive attitude, and love of family and friends will be greatly missed.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Enoch, and his step-father, James C. Martin.
Survivors include his mother, Betty Jean Williams Walker Martin of Waycross; his sister, Melinda W. Griffis (husband, Richard) of Patterson; his brother, Enoch Lawton Walker, III (wife, Sheila) of Waycross; nephews, R. Daniel Griffis, III (Tiffany) of Brunswick, Jake Walker (fiance’, Rachel Hill) of Waycross; nieces, Angel Griffis-Tittle (Ken) and their two sons, Hudson and Carter of Atlanta; Caroline Walker of Athens; several other relatives, and too many friends to count.
A celebration of Bill’s life was held on Saturday afternoon, October 5, 2019, at 4:00 o’clock from the Patterson Baptist Church.
Officiating was Rev. R. C. James and Mr. John Dupont
Interment was in the Patterson Cemetery.
