Mrs. Jacqueline “Jackie” Edith Bennett Austin, 90 of Blackshear, passed away early Friday morning, October 4, 2019, at the Twin Oak Convalescent Center in Alma.

Born in Blackshear, GA on April 9, 1929, she had lived in Pierce County all of her life.  Mrs. Austin was a 1946 graduate of Blackshear High School where she had been a star basketball player.   Over the years she continued to enjoy watching basketball.   Following her graduation from high school, Mrs. Austin went to work for the Ware County Health Department where she would work until marrying the love of her life and then going to work on the family farm.  She enjoyed anything to do with her grandchildren as well as fishing and dancing – square dancing and doing the Jitterbug were some of her favorites.  Mrs. Austin was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who also had a tender heart for not only people but for animals.  She had an easy going personality and will always be remembered for her love of family and giving nature.  Mrs. Austin was a member of the Blackshear First United Methodist Church where she had been in the Wesley I Sunday school class as well as the UMW.

She was a daughter of the late Flem & Georgia Bryson Bennett.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Chester “Burr” Austin; by a grandson, Austin Moody; and by four of her sisters, Irma Martin, Faye Courson, Ruth Yeomans, and Monteen Roberson.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Deena & Greg Moody of Adel; her son and daughter-in-law, Mike & Tera Austin of Blackshear; a sister, Alma McCaffrey of Richmond, VA; 5 grandchildren, Scott (Anne) Moody, Stephanie Moody, Paul Austin, Heidi (Clint) Rountree, and Ashley Austin; 11 great grandchildren, Kelsey Chandler, Kamryn Moody, Jackson Moody, Isaiah Sharpe, Colson Moody, Jed Rountree, Levi Rountree, Eva Clare Horne, Molly Rountree, Tripp McCarthy, and Eliza Horne; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
