Mr. Hyson Jerrell “Dink” Mattox, 89 of Blackshear, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2019, at St. Vincent’s – Riverside following a sudden illness.
Born in Blackshear, GA on May 21, 1930, he had lived in Pierce County all of his life. Mr. Mattox was a retired farmer – a job he loved – and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. He dearly loved his family: children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and they were his pride and joy. He enjoyed watching all kinds of sports on the television including wrestling. Mr. Mattox had loved helping his wife work in their yard but it was really just helping her and not the actual yard work that he loved. He was a precious soul that will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was a son of the late Hyson Alex & Maude Sweat Mattox. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Loretta Head Mattox; and by a brother, Hubert Lee Mattox.
Survivors include his three daughters and sons-in-law, Joan & Keith Booth and Maudie & Terry Allen all of Homerville, and Susan & Ray Parker of Blackshear; 5 grandchildren, Jason (Kelly) Booth, Emily (Denver) Arnold, Lynn (Shawn) Hulett, Shannon (Shasta) Allen, and Shane (Lea) Parker; 10 great grandchildren, Madison Booth, Bridget Booth, Jax Arnold, Olen Hulett, Jessie Hulett, Skyler Hulett, Hyson Hulett, Landan Allen, Mattox Allen, and Amelia Parker; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Mattox will be held Wednesday afternoon, December 18, 2019, at 2 o’clock from the Beulah Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
