Mrs. Helen Fay Hayman Dixon, 81 of Blackshear, passed away Friday evening, August 2, 2019 at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House.
Born in Savannah, GA on February 18, 1938, she had lived in Savannah most of her life before moving to Pierce County 12 years ago. Mrs. Dixon had worked for St. Joseph’s Hospital as a telephone operator for several years before opening her own answering service business – Southside Answering Service – which she retired from. She was of the Baptist faith and loved shopping and reading newspapers, especially the Savannah Morning News. Mrs. Dixon also enjoyed going back to Savannah for visits and was proud of her hometown. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
She was the daughter of the late George Leslie & Vella Bell Gordon Hayman. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Lester Hayman.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Carol J. Dixon of Blackshear; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Debra & James Hallex of Ellabell, Vicky Dixon of Blackshear, and Helen & Howard Amlesberg of Ellabell; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Carol Jackson “Buddy” & Darlene Dixon, Jr., Robert “Robbie” Dixon, and Billy & Jessica Dixon all of Blackshear; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mrs. Dixon will be held Tuesday morning, August 6, 2019, at 11 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
Interment will be in the Enon Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
