Mr. Columbus Venable Moore, 94 of Waycross, passed away early Monday morning, October 28, 2019, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House.
Born in Roxboro, NC on May 5, 1925, he had lived in Lakeland, FL for several years prior to moving to Blackshear in 2000. Mr. Moore was a US Navy Veteran having served during World War II and was retired from Publix where he had worked in their construction division. He enjoyed building things and would say, “If a man made it he could fix it”! He had attended Emmanuel Baptist Church and Hoboken Baptist Church.
He was a son of the late Ira Moore and Millie Mae Slaughter Crouch. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Frances Whicker Moore; his third wife, Yona Faye Lee Moore; two step-daughters, Frances Broadhead and Elaine Willeford; two sisters, Ola Oakley and Barbara Averette; and by two brothers, Dallas Moore and Earl Moore.
Survivors include three daughters, Joan (Ernie) Haynes of Lakeland, FL, Billie Jean (Mike) Delaney of Dundee, FL, and Janice Ann Moore of Riverview, FL; his son, John Thomas (Pam) Moore of Hollywood, MD; four step-daughters, Marie (Larry) Sturdivant of Chapel Hill, NC, Faye Stephens of Hillsborough, NC, Diane Lewis of Hoboken and Linda Cottingham of Hoboken; four step-sons, Bobby (Brenda) Minnis of Senora, NC, Jimmy (Shawn) Minnis of Lakeland, FL, Barry Lee of Hoboken and McCoy Lee of Hoboken; a step-son-in-law, Boe Broadhead of Blackshear; a sister, Christine Stevens of Danville, VA; a brother, Benny Moore of Danville, VA; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mr. Moore will be held Wednesday morning, October 30, 2019, at 11:00 from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
Interment will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the chapel one hour prior to the service.
