 Name: Jessie Adeline Gray Smart Dates: Birth date: December 24, 1923 Death date: June 12, 2012 Obituary: Mrs. Jessie Adeline Gray Smart, 88 of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday evening, June 12, 2012, at the Pierce County Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Born in Blackshear, GA on December 24, 1923, she had lived in Pierce County all of her life. Mrs. Smart was a homemaker and attended Beulah Baptist Church and First Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, sewing and taking care of her family.
Mrs. Smart was a daughter of the late William Elzie & Lillie Marie Kicklighter Gray. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, John Delmas Smart; a son, William Carley Smart; a grandson, Michael Smart; both of her sisters, Azalee Batten and Clara Mae Batten Nichols; and her brother, Vernon Gray.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette & Wallace King ofWaycross; a son and daughter-in-law, James Benny & Terri Smart of Blackshear; 6 grandchildren, Dr. James B. “Jim” Smart, Jr. of Jacksonville, Kathy & Timmy Riggins of Blackshear, Sonia & Javier Chancey of Callahan, Gary & Jennifer King of Albany, and Robert Smart of Oklahoma City, OK; 11 great grandchildren, 3 great, great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.
Memorials: Memorials may be made to Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, GA 31501 or to the Hospice Satilla Hospice House, 811 Beacon Street, Waycross, GA 31501. Visitation:The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o’clock Thursday evening, June 14, 2012, at the funeral home. Service:Funeral services for Mrs. Smart will be at 11:00 o’clock Friday morning, June 15, 2012, at the chapel of Pearson-Dial Funeral Home. Cemetery:Interment will be in the Corinth Cemetery.
