Mrs. Dorothy Mell James Cason, 92 of Blackshear, passed away Thursday morning, June 28, 2012, at the Pierce County Nursing Home.
Born in Blackshear, GA on June 6, 1920, she had lived in Pierce County all of her life. Mrs. Cason was a retired cosmetologist and had owned and operated the Cason Beauty Shop for over sixty years. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was in the Alert Sunday school class. Mrs. Cason had also played the piano and organ at Rehobeth Baptist Church for ten years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Cason was a daughter of the late John Quitman & Margaret Irene Bennett James. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lonnie Cason; a sister, Joyce James Coleman; and three brothers, Eustace James, Estes James and Elfred James.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Rosemarie Strickland of Blackshear and Cynthia & Bill Darden of Atlanta; a sister, Elaine James Vanetta of St. Marys; a brother and sister-in-law, Billy & Marylane James of Blackshear; two sisters-in-law, Marion James and Willie Mae Woodall both of Blackshear; a brother-in-law, Loomis (Joyce) Cason of Blackshear; 6 grandchildren, Tarver & Janet Strickland, Serge & Kim Strickland, Anna & Bill Raulerson, Doug Williamson, Casey & Christy Williamson and Bree & Clay Caldwell; 11 great grandchildren; a special friend, Rena Bowen of Blackshear; and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.Service:
Funeral services for Mrs. Cason will be held at 3:00 o’clock Saturday afternoon, June 30, 2012, at the First Baptist Church.
Interment will be in the Blackshear City Cemetery.
