Mr. Riley Eugene “Buddy” Floyd Sr., 75 of Blackshear, passed away early Sunday morning (July 18, 2010) at Satilla Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

A native of Thomas County, Mr. Floyd had lived in Blackshear for the past 20 years after moving from Fernandina Beach. He was employed with the Nassau County Board of Education where he retired as the Director of Transportation. Mr. Floyd enjoyed building things, going fishing and wood-working. He will be remembered for his love of his family and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Riley & Elsie Spires Floyd; a son, Jackie Harris; a sister, Nellerine Floyd Lord Sams and a grandson, Seth Floyd.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Josephine Lois Gill Floyd of Blackshear; two daughters, Belinda Jo Adams (husband Steve) of Blackshear and Lynnette Shields (husband Berkley) of Aikens, S.C.; five sons, Eugene Floyd (wife Terri) of Mechanicsville, Virginia, Donnie Floyd (wife Cindy) of Blackshear, David Floyd of Blackshear, Michael Floyd (wife Ede) of Fernandina Beach and Timothy Floyd (wife Kimberly) of Middleburg, Fla.; a sister, Joni Houston (husband Ken); nineteen grandchildren, Crystal Breeding, Rachael Migl, Stacy Howard, P.J. Allen, Benjamin Floyd, Kelli Floyd, Sara Floyd, Stuart Ralston, Jeni Pittard, Shanna Floyd, Jacob Floyd, Eric Floyd, Joshua Floyd, Jessica Corbitt, Marishelle Floyd, Adam Pollack, Adrian Judd, Steven Hanna and Erin Floyd; several great grandchildren and other relatives.
