Mrs. Dorothy Douglas Kelley, 87 of Hoboken, passed away early Sunday morning (January 24, 2010) at her residence following an extended illness.
A native of Brantley County, Mrs. Kelley had lived all of her life in Hoboken. Mrs. Kelley was a member of Hoboken Baptist Church where she was the former director of the Girls’ Auxiliary, a former Sunday School Teacher in various classes and remained very active at the church until her health declined. In addition to her church, Mrs. Kelley was a former member of the Eastern Star, a member of the Happy Heart’s Club, a founding member of the Wisteria Garden Club. She was a homemaker that was dedicated to her home & family and her grandchildren are her heart.
She was a daughter of the late James H. & Maude Strickland Douglas, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Elery Harrison “Red” Kelley, Sr.; five sisters, Alma Hickox, Thelma Gillis, Eva Hickox, Parolee Lee and Clara Drury.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela K. Dowling of Hoboken; her son and daughter-in-law, E.H. “Rusty” Jr. & Laura Kelley of Hoboken; a sister, Wynell Douglas Bowen of Brantley County; a brother-in-law, Clifford Easterling of Waycross; two grandchildren, Ashley Kelley Burgeson (husband Jarrod) and E.H. “Kyle” Kelley III; two step grandchildren, Wesley Rentz & Chip Bullard; a great grandson, William Reid Burgeson; a step great granddaughter, Morgan Renee Rentz; several nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives.
The family will receive friends Monday evening (January 25, 2010) from 6 until 8 o’clock at the funeral home.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kelley will be held 11:00 o’clock Tuesday morning (January 26, 2010) at the Hoboken Baptist Church.
Interment will be in the Hoboken Cemetery.
