Name: Billy Jesse Strickland Dates: Birth date: June 25, 1926 Death date: August 13, 2012 Obituary: Mr. Billy Jesse Strickland, 86 of Blackshear, passed away late Monday night, August 13, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System –Waycross following a lengthy illness. Born in Folkston, Georgia on June 25, 1926, Mr. Strickland had lived in Pierce County most of his adult life. He retired from CSX Transportation where he had worked as a machinist for 42 years, had farmed and had also served one term as Pierce County Coroner during the late ‘70’s. Mr. Strickland was a US Navy veteran having served during World War II and was a member of Bachelot Church of God in Hickox. Mr. Strickland was a son of the late Raymond Levi & Polly Walker Strickland. He was also preceded in death by all three of his brothers, John E. Strickland, I. J. Strickland and Floyd W. Strickland. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Youmans of Blackshear; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Thelma & Jr. Kirkland, Juanita Head and Jenitha & T. L. Chaney all of Blackshear; and several nieces, nephews & other relatives. Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Bachelot Church of God, 3097 Bachelot Church Road, Nahunta, GA 31553 or to a charity of one’s choice. Visitation:Visitation for Mr. Strickland will be held Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home. Service:Funeral services for Mr. Strickland will be held Thursday afternoon, August 16, 2012, at 3:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel. Cemetery:Interment will be in the Waters Cemetery. |
