Mrs. Lounelle Smith Strickland, 83 of Jacksonville, passed away Wednesday morning, July 25, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Waycross following an illness.
Born in Douglas, Georgia on June 19, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Tracy and Adel Harrell Smith. She enjoyed golfing and playing bridge with her friends, and loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Strickland was a former Sunday school teacher and was a member of First Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Strickland was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James Kenneth Strickland; two sisters, Mickey Wilson and Geraldine Fitzgerald.
Survivors include three daughters, Diane S. Turner (husband John) of Rabun Gap, Karen S. Hawk (husband Thomas) of Jacksonville, Carla S. Kennedy (husband Terry) of Jacksonville; a son, Jim Strickland of Jacksonville; a brother, Carl Smith of Brunswick; six grandchildren, Todd Turner, Michael Turner, T.J. Hawk, Sarah Strickland, Allison Kennedy, Parker Kennedy; two great grandchildren, Austin Turner and Jessie Turner; her special caregivers, Jan Martin and Leah “Sissy” Allbritton; several nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives.
