Mrs. Gertrude Harper James, 98 of Blackshear, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 24, 2012, at the Pierce County Nursing Home.
Born in Osierfield,Ga., on May 22, 1914, she had lived in Pierce County all of her adult life. Mrs. James was known as a great seamstress and enjoyed making quilts and crafts. She did alterations for the Gilmore’s Department Store for many years and was a member of the Blackshear First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Jmaes was a daughter of the late Albert & Elizabeth Ann Fussell Harper. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jewel Oden James; a son, Jewel Oden James, Jr.; and all of her brothers and her sister.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Harris of Blackshear; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry & Margie James of Waverly and Harvey & Joyce James of Blackshear; 7 grandchildren, Greg James, Camille & Todd Hendry, Lance & Pam James, Chris Crews, Jennifer & Dan Strickland, Melanie Harris and Andrea Boatright; 10 great grandchildren, 3 great, great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel.
Funeral services for Mrs. James will be held at 11:00 o’clock Friday morning, June 29, 2012, at the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
Interment will be in the Blackshear City Cemetery.
