Mrs. Sarah Westberry Harris, 83 of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 7, 2012, at Baptist Village following an extended illness.


 


Born in Alma, Georgia on April 26, 1929, Mrs. Harris had lived in Jacksonville since 1949. She made costumes for the Jax Opera Group and Florida Junior College, and was the first outside saleslady for Cal-Gas, now AmeriGas, where she convinced many companies to change from gas to propane. Mrs. Harris volunteered at the local food bank and was a member of the North Jacksonville Baptist Church.


 


She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawton and Macie Tuten Westberry.


 


Survivors include her husband of 62 of years, Dewey Harris of Jacksonville; three daughters, Anne Hines (husband Rusty) of Jacksonville, Alice Johnson (husband Richard) of Beaufort, S.C., Sandy Windhaus (husband Robert) of Atlanta; four sisters, Frankie Murphy (husband Charles) Brunswick, Gloria Crosby (husband Sammy) of St. Marys, Bobbi Davis (husband Buddy) of Patterson, Charlene Vaughn (husband Tommy) of Jacksonville; two brothers, Edward Westberry of Valdosta, Alec Westberry (wife Rita) of Virginia; four grandchildren, Teresa O’Connell (husband Casey), Rebecca Johnson, Jacob Windhaus, Macie Windhaus; one great granddaughter, Cady O’Connell; several nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives.


 


 


 


 


Memorials:

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Fl. 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601.

Visitation:

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o’clock Sunday evening, June 10, 2012 at the funeral home.

Service:

The funeral for Mrs. Harris will be 11:00 o’clock Monday morning, June 11, 2012, at the chapel of Pearson-Dial Funeral Home.

Cemetery:

Interment will be in the Laura Chapel Cemetery.
