Alexander Washington Obituary

Mr. Alexander Albert “Alex” Washington, 84, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, formerly of Patterson, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 20, 2024, at Treasure Cove Hospice in Fort Pierce, FL.

Born in Patterson, GA on May 1, 1939, Mr. Washington lived in Pierce County most of his life before moving to Port St. Lucie three years ago.  He was a graduate of Lee Street High school in Blackshear and following his high school graduation, he went to work for Harry’s Gin Company in Patterson.  Mr. Washington would go on to retire from Georgia Natural Gas, which gave him more time to do what he truly loved, farming.  He also enjoyed carpentry work and was considered a true handyman.  Fishing, reading his Bible, and listening to music as well as singing were also things he enjoyed.  Mr. Washington always had a smile on his face and even through sickness, never complained.  He was a member of Calvary Compassion Church in Ft. Pierce but had also been a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Patterson.

He was a son of the late Clarence & Isabell Monroe Washington.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mae Fedrick Washington; three sisters, Pauline, Clara, and Naomi; two brothers, Paul and Matthew; and by a sister-in-law, Betty Washington.

Survivors include his two daughters and son-in-law, Alexandra & Theodore Sanders of Port St. Lucie and Leslea & Pentry McAfee of Jacksonville; two sons, Burnell Jinks of Patterson and Frederick Washington of Tampa, FL; three sisters, Queen (Herbert) Joseph of Boynton Beach, FL, Isabell (Earl) Smith of Patterson, and Annie Mae Smiley of Waycross; a brother, Daniel Washington of Offerman; his aunt, Naomi Whitehead of Farrell, PA; 8 grandchildren, Tiffany Wood, Ja’Courtney Cunningham, Gerald Cunningham, Theodore Wood, Ethan Sanders, Dystany Cunningham, Nick Mathis, and Dianna Sanders; 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services for Mr. Washington will be held Tuesday morning, March 26, 2024, at 11 o’clock from the First Baptist Church in Blackshear with Pastor Thoedore Sanders and Pastor Marcus Nix officiating.

Visitation for Mr. Washington will be held Monday evening from 5 until 7 at the funeral home.
